Well… Happy New Year, late I guess. We are starting this 2025 season with a particular new course!
I recently had an enlightenment phase a few months ago where I decided to cut my hair, my long hair….(no I’m not crying, not right now) Anyway, my bob is not bobbing so I had to write a whole article on hair to make me feel better. (I’m just waiting for them to grow, that’s the truth.))
Historically, as long as humans could hold a pair of scissors (not only Edward), hair has had a huge impact on how people communicate. It gradually became a reflection of their social status. In ancient Egypt and Greece, hair was associated with power and wealth. As more people took care of their hair with complex braids and by adding jewelry, it shows that they had the time to do it and the money to buy multiple tools and accessories. Over the years, even though these beliefs diminished in most regions of the world, the truth about hair is that it does reflect your inner self. You can guess that someone who wears their hair in a neat and sleek ponytail does take it seriously and professionally. On the contrary, a person who neglects their hair tends to neglect the other parts of life. We, usually, do not perceive how much impact a hairstyle has on ourselves.
We already know that the way you dress yourself reflects your personality. When fashion brands create their runway’ looks, they also assume a character out of the overall collection. Additionally, the hair has its importance as much as the clothes in this presumed character. As you can see, I decided to picture out some of the iconic hair looks of Bella Hadid just above. You can see that she doesn’t give out the same energy in the different pictures. She keeps a close facial expression in most of the different settings, but the hair speaks for herself. All that to say hair should not be neglected and should be taken care of. However, cutting your hair is not a wrong thing.
We often hear people saying « Hair holds memories ». Well, I thought that it was dumb to say that hair holds memories since there is no evidence of it. However, I found an article that explains that it is possible, during intense emotional experiences, that some hormones are released through the body that can impact your hair follicles (the little thing responsible for hair growth). Therefore, it is not cutting your hair that will change the way a trauma impacted you since you don’t change anything about the hair follicles. Nevertheless, cutting your hair changes your reflection in the mirror, and if you need to change, it is a good thing to do.
Anyway, I think I’ll have to deal with this rebellious and boyish short hair that I have now and create a character out of it. (I’m sooo dramatic, it already grew back a bit lol). Hope you like my catharsis class.
See you next class,
Fanny ;))
