Hiii students and welcome back in a new course! This one is really special since it is the first time that I am writing about a trend that I did not follow. If I feel satisfied about the lesson, I’ll probably make more of these. Anyway, as you can clearly see from the moodboard above, this course is about the sexiest trend ever: OFFICE SIREN. Since I do not adopt this aesthetic, I had to make my research.
First, a bit of greek history for you to be lightened on the term « siren ». In mythology, it is considered as a gorgeous and evil creature, half women, half bird or fish, with a voice so irresistible that sailors would literally crash their ships just to get closer. It’s like the ancient version of being catfished, but with a side of drowning. Not to be confused with their friendly cousins, the mermaids who are sweet and grant wishes to sailors instead of seducing them like the sirens.
In this trend, everything is minimalist while still making you look like a « grande dame ». Tight and sober clothes to look feminine such as pencil skirts, costume pants and light cardigans. Colors are focused on neutral color palettes such as black, grey, brown, and white. For accessories, one or two statement pieces. Silver is recommended though. I advice a watch as well, just to deliver the thought that your time is money worth. Weirdly, glasses are in, contacts are soooo out. Nearsighted or blind people, this is your time to shine since your handicap is now trending. Nails are usually short and most of the time beige or vampy red colors. Lastly, the shoes! Simple knee-high boots or very feminine heels (kitten heels are the goal), the important detail is some pointed-toe shoes ( it is a plus if it is varnished). A friend of mine recently bought gorgeous burgundy kitten heels out of vinted, I have to admit that she inspired me to write about this trend!
On my personal opinion, I believe that I did not adopt this trend since I did not catch the fun of dressing with this aesthetic. Neutral tones and simple outfit are just not me I guess. If I had to become a siren version of me, I would had dark colors such as green olives or prussian and french navy blues. Additionally, I would mix the various texture, such as wool socks with a snake leather skirt. I would buy statement pieces to add spices to a clear capsule wardrobe since it would elevate the distinction between classical style and the siren office aesthetic.
You are now ready to be a powerful and ultra feminine working girl. A little disclaimer about this trend would be that even though you are pretty sexy and you can feel confident, there is a dark side to this aesthetic. Being sexualised. YEP, men always have something to say about how we dress and how we behave. The solution is to avoid caring since it is inevitable. This stigmatization should not stop you from being/feeling sexy and intelligent.
Dress for yourself.
See you next class,
Fanny ;))
